Tribochemical Characterization and Tribocorrosive Behavior of CoCrMo Alloys: A Review
Published 2018“…However, poor design and machinability as well as unsatisfactory surface finish subjected the all-metal joint replacement to being superseded by a polyethylene bearing. Continued improvement in manufacturing techniques together with the reality that polyethylene wear debris can cause hazardous reactions in the human body has brought about the revival of metal-on-metal (MOM) hip joints in recent years. …”

A boundary-fragment-model for object detection
Published 2006“…

We demonstrate the following results: (i) the BFM detector is able to represent and detect object classes principally defined by their shape, rather than their appearance; and (ii) in comparison with other published results on several object classes (airplanes, cars-rear, cows) the BFM detector is able to exceed previous performances, and to achieve this with less supervision (such as the number of training images).…”

Development of image-based method for the quantitative assessment of cartilage damage from CT as a biomarker in osteoarthritis
Published 2024“…

The next phase included segmenting the cartilage from aligned CT volumes, utilizing a deep learning segmentation method, the Gate Attention-U-net, for enhanced precision and versatility in cartilage segmentation, achieving an 88% DSC and 9um ASD in the tibia's weight-bearing area.

After extracting cartilage shape, we compared the thickness and remaining volume of tibial cartilage in the weight-bearing area with a prior semi-manual method, observing a Pearson correlation coefficient (R value) exceeding 0.8 with the semi-manual method (p<0.0001) and a correlation with OA scores from histological images (p<0.05). …”

Power system modeling and simulation
Published 2020“…The dissertation initially develops a equivalent model under steady state and dynamic state with implement of parameters from PES-TR19, then the power flow calculation and dynamic contingency analysis including overloading, underloading, tripping of tie lines and changes in load composition are proceeded, finally, the white paper emphasizes on analyzing the rotor angle, frequency, voltage stability of some elements including generators, bus bars in Nordic-74 test system. Through building and analyzing the Nordic-74 model, people are able to better make a clear recognition of interconnected huge power system. …”

Experimental study on effects of multi-column removal affecting behaviour of RC frames to mitigate progressive collapse
Published 2015“…Various studies were conducted in the last decade with majority focusing on instances whereby only a single load bearing member, such as a column, was removed. However, in most real life accidental situations (terrorist attack/ vehicular impact) involving progressive collapse, they will often result in heavy initial impact that will lead to multi-column loss in a RC structure. …”

Negotiating time in British Malaya : colonial Singapore’s role in time legislature, 1895 – 1933
Published 2017“…This paper argues that the various time changes in Singapore and British Malaya between 1895 to 1933 were products borne of influence from international agreements, yet more strongly bear the marks of local negotiation. Being arbitrary in nature, time offsets in the form of mean times, standard times, and daylight saving times were socially determined, negotiated, and sustained, by the circulation of ideas, objects, and actors. …”

Autism narratives in Singapore
Published 2021“…Examining Singaporean autism narratives allows us insight into the ways in which dominant global discourses about autism are negotiated in local contexts; narratives are shaped by their socio-cultural contexts and examining those from Singapore, a globalised and multicultural, yet socially conservative city-state, enables us to understand the ways in which such multiple discourses come to bear upon individual narratives. Given that these narratives have, in turn, the potential to shape cultural discourses, and having shown through close literary analysis some effects of existing stereotypes and discourses, I argue for the urgency and importance of attending to narrative ethics in the production of autism narratives in Singapore.…”
