Comparative study on design of braced excavation systems
Published 2019“…From this study, the following findings are drawn: The Hardening Soil and the Hardening Soil with small-strain stiffness models generate conservative settlement profiles compared to the Mohr-Coulomb model; Combination 1 provides a conservative estimation of the wall bending moments; Upper strut forces are more conservative using DA1 Combination 1 while bottom strut forces are more conservative using DA1 Combination 2 Scheme 1; Scheme 2 gives a large bending moment than Scheme 1; The Mohr-Coulomb model, generally, gives a smaller maximum wall bending moment than the Hardening Soil model; findings from sheet pile excavation deviate from those from diaphragm wall excavations; and lastly, consideration of factored E50/cu ratio produces similar strut forces and bending moments compared to unfactored E50/cu values.…”

Mechanical properties of additively manufactured kraft paper lattices and paper-epoxy interpenetrating phase composites for polymer foam replacement
Published 2024“…Closed-cell plate lattices, open-cell truss lattices, honeycombs and epoxy-paper interpenetrating phase composites (IPC) were fabricated using a sheet lamination technique. The microstructures of both paper and IPC samples were examined using scanning electron microscopy and gas pycnometry. …”

Improved performance of gravity-driven membrane filtration for seawater pretreatment: Implications of membrane module configuration
Published 2017“…This flux was higher than those in the lab-scale GDM reactor (16.3 ± 0.2 L/m2h; effective volume of 8.4 L) and in the filtration cell system (2.7 ± 0.6 L/m2h; feed side volume of 0.0046 L) when the same flat sheet membrane was used. Interestingly, when the filtration cell was submerged into the GDM reactor, the flux (17.2 L/m2h) was comparable to the submerged membrane module. …”

Dynamic swimming pattern of Pseudomonas aeruginosa near a vertical wall during initial attachment stages of biofilm formation
Published 2021“…Here, we compared the near wall (vertical) swimming behaviour of P. aeruginosa (PAO1) and its mutants ΔdipA (reduced in swarming motility and increased in biofilm formation) and ΔfimX (deficient in twitching motility and reduced in biofilm formation) using our new imaging technique based on light sheet microscopy. We found that P. aeruginosa (PAO1) increases its speed and changes its swimming angle drastically when it gets closer to a wall. …”
