Numerical investigations of detonation reinitiation and failure modes from Mach reflection
Published 2025“…From different geometric parameters of the obstacle, we observe different detonation propagation modes after Mach reflection: detonation reinitiation characterized by the transverse detonation waves, decaying shock decoupled with flame, and inert shock with no ignition corresponding well to the experimental findings. Relying on the high resolution of the numerical simulations, we are able to obtain critical information about the detonation wave formation processes, and the corresponding detailed mechanisms are analyzed for various modes. …”

Resolution of proteotoxic stress in the endoplasmic reticulum by ubiquitin ligase complexes
Published 2016“…To understand the contribution of ER E3s to cellular and organelle homeostasis, this study used mass spectrometry of purified E3 complexes to identify cofactors and build interaction networks of ER-resident E3s. These findings will form the foundation for investigating the biological roles of these ubiquitin ligases. …”

The attribution of February extremes over North America: a forecast-based storyline study
Published 2024“…In the globally averaged results, increasing CO2 concentrations lead to distinct warming signals at the surface, resulting mainly from diabatic heating. Our study finds that CO2-induced warming eventually affects the possibility of extreme events in North America, quantifying the impact of anthropogenic forcing over less than a week’s forecast simulation. …”

Local rainfall is more likely than distant thunderstorms to affect movement behaviour in Northern Kenyan elephants
Published 2024“…While some abrupt movement changes occurred ahead of local wet periods, they were only particularly frequent shortly following the onset of wet periods. These findings do not concur with reports of Namibian elephants that generally changed their movement behaviour preceding local rainfall, and the additional exploration of individual behaviours in the present study likewise did not provide compelling evidence of a generic reliance on remote thunder cues by Northern-Kenyan elephants. …”

Iranian and Saudi mutual (mis)representations: a study of the relationship between discourses of othering, political confrontation and sectarian strife
Published 2018“…Finally, by investigating three main Iranian and Saudi spheres/discourses, namely the political (speeches of the elite), religious (Friday prayer sermons) and media (newspaper editorials) discourses, this study will try to explain how <em>Othering</em> is understood and functions in the Iranian-Saudi discourse, its relationship to political rivalry and religious conflict and how they are understood as cases of political propaganda or religious polemics.</p> <p>The study findings identify a paradigm shift in analysis of the Saudi-Iranian relationship, moving away from conventional geopolitical and sectarian paradigms, which have been dominant. …”

Quantitative proteomics reveals CLR interactome in primary human cells
Published 2024“…All identified interactors have not been previously reported as members of CLR interactome. Our approach and findings uncover the hitherto unrecognized compositional complexity of the interactome of endogenously expressed CLR and contribute to fundamental understanding of the biology of this GPCR. …”

A comparison of lesion mapping analyses based on CT versus MR imaging in stroke
Published 2023“…<br> Overall, these results suggest that CT and MR-derived lesion-symptom mapping results do not reliably differ in accuracy. This finding is critically important as it suggests that future studies can employ CT-derived lesion masks if these scans are available within the appropriate time-window.…”

Regulation and function of innate-like T cells
Published 2021“…These include NK cells, γδT cells, tissue-resident memory T cells, cytotoxic T cells and the still poorly studied T follicular helper cells in cancer. In summary, the findings of this study expand the knowledge of the regulation and function of CD161-expressing immune subsets and their role in cancer, setting the stage for their use as a clinical biomarker or in cancer immunotherapy.…”

Characterisation of the genomes of brain metastases
Published 2015“…Although my sample size was modest the brain metastases had an increased number of copy number alterations in comparison to primary tumours. Furthermore, my findings suggest that chromothripsis may occur more frequently in brain metastases. …”

The emergence of DNAM-1 as the facilitator of NK cell-mediated killing in ovarian cancer
Published 2025“…Expression of PVR, the DNAM-1 ligand, was significantly increased on tumours and DNAM-1 mediated NK cell lysis of primary tumour tissue was observed in vitro. Discussion: These findings reveal profound modulation of the tumour tissue and systemic profile of NK cells which likely contributes to the high rates of local progression and metastasis seen with OC. …”

Published 2015“…Data for this study was gathered through eight months of multi-method ethnographic fieldwork with 23 HIV-positive youth, their families, and local health workers.</p> <p>The findings elucidate adolescent ART as a complex (and often volatile) form of social incorporation, through which young people negotiate survival, care and moral connection in contemporary South Africa. …”

Lebensphilosophie in Rabbi Avraham Itzhak HaCohen Kook’s thought: the case of Henri Bergson
Published 2024“…It isolates relevant overlaps between Bergson's philosophy of life and Kook's thought, the findings are then leveraged to provide a new, deeper, and enriched interpretation of Kook's philosophy on these topics, and, in some cases, present original perspectives to resolve existing contradictions in his thought.…”

Investigating heterogeneity across autism, ADHD, and typical development using measures of cortical thickness, surface area, cortical/subcortical volume, and structural covariance
Published 2023“…We integrated cortical thickness, surface area, and cortical/subcortical volume, with a measure of single-participant structural covariance using a graph neural network approach. Results: Our findings suggest two large clusters, which differed in measures of adaptive functioning (χ2 = 7.8, P = 0.004), inattention (χ2 = 11.169, P < 0.001), hyperactivity (χ2 = 18.44, P < 0.001), IQ (χ2 = 9.24, P = 0.002), age (χ2 = 70.87, P < 0.001), and sex (χ2 = 105.6, P < 0.001). …”

Adjustable wind selectivity in shearwaters implies knowledge of the foraging landscape
Published 2025“…Finally, birds are also less wind selective during longer continuous periods of flight, presumably also associated with target-oriented movement. Our findings reveal how an animal’s foraging strategy can dynamically optimize the complex trade-off between efficient travel and accessing known foraging areas, implying the incorporation of prior knowledge of the cost-benefit landscape well beyond the range of what can be detected directly. …”

Territorial movements of African lions: can waterholes shape multiple central-place territories in a savanna ecosystem?
Published 2025“…However, we found that both female and male lions repeatedly moved along straight paths between the waterholes located both in the core and in the periphery of their territories, potentially to defend multiple central-place territories driven by the distribution of waterholes in the landscape. These findings illustrate a case where territorial animals specifically mark feeding sites, increasing the renewal of territorial cues at these key places, potentially using long-distance territorial cues (i.e., vocalizations) to mark uncovered areas, and thereby reducing the cost of patrolling large territories. …”
