Piezoelectric single crystal based one-dimensional phased array for breast tissue imaging
Published 2024“…In this thesis, I propose a conformable ultrasound breast patch (cUSBr-Patch) consisting of a one-dimensional (1D) phased array and a nature-inspired patch design, which offers large-area, deep tissue scanning and multi-angle, repeatable breast imaging while avoiding the drawbacks of conventional ultrasound imaging technologies. I used a Yb/Bi-doped PIN-PMN-PT single crystal as the active element due to its superior piezoelectric properties (d33 = 2,800 pC/N, εr = 7,000, k33 = 0.93). …”

Two-dimensional partially ionized magnetohydrodynamic turbulence
Published 2022“…We arrive at, and numerically confirm, an expression for the energy loss due to collisions in both the weakly and strongly collisional limits, and show that, in the latter limit, the neutral fluid couples to the ions and behaves as an MHD fluid. Finally, we discuss some implications of our findings to current understanding of gas giant planet atmospheres.…”

Microbially induced calcium carbonate precipitation on surface or in the bulk of soil
Published 2013“…One of them is microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP), which is performed due to bacterial hydrolysis of urea in soil in the presence of calcium ions. The MICP process can be adopted to reduce the permeability and/or increase the shear strength of soil. …”

Mechanistic study and applications of lanthanide-based upconversion nanomaterials
Published 2015“…The major contributions presented in this thesis are briefly summarized as follows: (1) The demonstration of cross relaxation (CR) effect as a tool for manipulating the UC color output, and an unprecedented achievement of intense 696 nm emission relying on the CR effect amongst Tm3+ ions; (2) The realization of a facile method for one-step synthesis of size- and phase-controlled water-dispersible NaYF4:Yb/Er UCNPs; (3) The development of a new type of UCNPs-based nanocomposite which may serve as potential laser protective materials.…”

Upconversion nanoparticles-modified aptasensors for highly sensitive mycotoxin detection for food quality and safety
Published 2024“…UCNPs consist of lanthanide ions in ceramic host, and their ladder-like energy levels at f-orbitals have unique photophysical properties, including converting low-energy photons to high-energy emissions by a series of complex processes and offering sharp, low-noise, and sensitive near-infrared to visible detection strategy to enhance the efficacy of aptasensors for novel mycotoxin detection. …”
