Topography-incorporated adjoint-state surface wave Traveltime tomography: method and a case study in Hawaii
Published 2024“…Additionally, our model reveals a high-velocity anomaly to the South of Hualalai's summit, which may be related to a buried rift zone. Our findings further demonstrate that including topography can lead to a correction of up to 0.8% in the shear wave velocity model of Hawaii, an island spanning approximately 100 km with volcanoes reaching elevations exceeding 4 km.…”

Electrocatalytic reduction of simulated industrial CO2 and CO mixtures: revising chronoamperometry to enable selective gas mixture reduction via cyclic voltammetry
Published 2024“…Meanwhile, the results underscored the dependency of performance enhancement on the scan rate of cycling, revealing plausible correlations with mass transfer and electrode surface dynamics. Furthermore, the findings indicated that the selectivity towards HCOOH and C2H4 is closely related to the CO2/CO ratios of gas sources. …”

Early Prediction of Skin Viability Using Visible Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy and Autofluorescence Spectroscopy
Published 2016“…Meanwhile, several physiologically relevant parameters including hemoglobin oxygenation, total hemoglobin concentration, and redox ratio indicators estimated from diffuse reflectance and autofluorescence spectra show distinctively different trends over time for nonviable and viable skin. Conclusions: These findings will be helpful to clinicians for making a precise judgment on flap viability. …”

Heme-Regulated eIF2α Kinase Modulates Hepatic FGF21 and is Activated by PPARβ/δ Deficiency
Published 2016“…Moreover, pharmacological activation of HRI increased Fgf21 expression and reduced lipid-induced hepatic steatosis and glucose intolerance and these effects were not observed in Fgf21-null mice. Overall, these findings suggest that HRI is a potential target for regulating hepatic FGF21 levels.…”

Hypoxia-inducible factor-2 alpha up-regulates CD70 under hypoxia and enhances anchorage-independent growth and aggressiveness in cancer cells
Published 2018“…In addition, the expression of CD70 and colony forming efficiency in soft agar were decreased by knockdown of HIF-2α. These findings indicate that CD70 expression and an aggressive phenotype of cancer cells is driven under hypoxic conditions and mediated by HIF-2α functions and epigenetic modifications. …”

Ethnic differences in knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to dietary salt intake and association with hypertension in Malaysia: a multi-centre cross-sectional study
Published 2024“…Those who were unaware of the difference between salt and sodium and who reported not reading salt labels had higher odds of having elevated blood pressure. These findings demonstrate that while there is a suboptimal translation of salt knowledge into practice in Malaysia, with significant differences in KAP observed between ethnic groups, the potential of improving health outcomes by improving the clarity and awareness of salt labels is substantial. …”

Performance-based identity in a BIM environment : An architect’s perceptions and experiences
Published 2022“…The study was conducted in a Malaysian architectural consultancy practice (ACP) setting. Findings: The data analysis resulted in the following five performance identity themes that revolve around the core identity of a successful designer: “performing as a design strategist”, “performing as a design translator”, “performing as a design facilitator”, “reinstating the identity of a design coordinator” and “performing as a design innovator”. …”

Depletion of lamins B1 and B2 promotes chromatin mobility and induces differential gene expression by a mesoscale-motion-dependent mechanism
Published 2024“…Conclusions Our findings suggest that, while B-type lamin degradation does not significantly change genome topology, it has major implications for three-dimensional chromatin conformation at the single-cell level both at the lamina-associated periphery and the non-LAD-associated nuclear interior with concomitant genome-wide transcriptional changes. …”

Rheo-PIV of yield-stress fluids in a 3D-printed fractal vane-in-cup geometry
Published 2024“…We describe the velocity distributions in all cases and show that the fVIC produces an almost axisymmetric flow field and rotation rate-independent “effective radius” when used with both the Newtonian fluid and the microgel. These findings are supported by 2D simulation results and enable the safe use of both the Couette analogy and the torque-to-stress conversion scheme for a 24-arm fVIC as well as validate it as a reliable rheometrical tool for characterization of a variety of complex fluids. …”

Spatial structure of workplace and communication between colleagues: A study of E-mail exchange and spatial relatedness on the MIT campus
Published 2024“…Building on prior studies of both physical and electronic communication networks, we present the results of a study conducted on the MIT campus using an anonymized dataset of e-mail communication to examine how spatial relatedness between faculty, staff, and researchers’ office locations impact E-mail communication between them. Our findings suggest that (a) people whose offices are closer to each other by walking are more likely to exchange E-mails, (b) on the campus as a whole, people who are more likely to walk past each other’s offices on the way to or from work are more likely to exchange E-mails, and (c) people who share access to similar eating venues around their offices are more likely to exchange E-mails. …”
