Impact of interspecific competition on African wild dogs (Lycaon pictus) in an ecosystem with artificial perennial water provision
Published 2024“…My main results show that: a) prey conservation mainly in low waterhole density areas is crucial to decrease food resource competition between African wild dogs with large predators (Chapter 2); b) areas with too high waterhole densities increased the kleptoparasitism risk on African wild dogs and hence the risk of agonistic encounters with dominant predators through an increase on the number of dominant predators arriving at playback locations (Chapter 3); c) African wild dogs preferred temporal partitioning over spatial partitioning to avoid large predators, and African wild dogs were able to co-occur in areas (rich in prey) with high aggregation and density of dominant predators as long as there were enough permanent waterhole densities (at least ~0.01 waterholes per km2) and not too high hyaena densities (above ~14 hyaenas/100km2) (Chapter 4). …”

Introduction - Oxford Energy Forum – Issue, 98
Published 2015“…</p> <p>Unlike the major international oil and gas industry hubs and hydrocarbon-rich regions of Russia, Africa, and the Middle East, Latin America traditionally has not been able to attract long-term capital or seen many sustained full-cycle developments in oil and gas (in contrast to the situation in mining, where activity has been stable). …”

Le cinéma d’Afrique noire contemporaine: une impossible décolonisation?
Published 2024“…The latter campaigned for African filmmakers to appropriate their cinema, with a view to restoring the truth about the sociocultural, political and economic realities of the black continent, long falsified by the colonial camera. Vieyra and Sembène wanted to contribute to the birth and promotion of a decolonized African cinema, in which the virtues and cultural riches of Africa are extolled. …”

Emergent vortices at a ferromagnetic superconducting oxide interface
Published 2014“…This hysteresis is argued to arise from vortex depinning within a thin (< 20 nm) superconducting layer, mediated by discrete ferromagnetic dipoles located solely above the layer. The pinning strength may be modified by varying the superconducting channel thickness via electric field-effect doping. …”

Structure and dynamics of magnetic domain walls in multi-sublattice magnetic oxides
Published 2024“…We investigated the DW depinning dynamics in Pt/BiYIG thin film, presenting a phase diagram of this pinning event, which proves the crucial role of minimizing the pinning effect in achieving fast DW velocity. …”

Direct observation of deterministic domain wall trajectory in magnetic network structures
Published 2018“…The DW propagation in the network structure is governed by the geometrically induced potential barrier and pinning strength against the propagation. This technique can be extended for controlling the trajectory of magnetic charge carriers in an artificial spin ice lattice.…”

Why do Chinese firms go public abroad and how do they perform?
Published 2023“…We find that there is a valuation discount of Chinese firms listed overseas compared with their domestically listed counterparts and this valuation discount is persistent in the long run. Then, we investigate reasons for such valuation discounts by examining the impact of policy distortions on the overseas listing. …”
