A network-based approach to interpreting pore blockage and cake filtration during membrane fouling
Published 2017“…This study proposes a network-based approach, in which the membrane is discretized and each particle is individually monitored, to explore the underlying fouling mechanisms leading to pore blockage and cake growth during a membrane filtration process. …”

Domain aggregation and associated pore growth in lipid membranes
Published 2022“…To help reveal and understand the underlying mechanisms, here we establish a theory to show that the deformation energy of the membrane tends to limit the growth of molecular domains on a lipid membrane, resulting in a characteristic domain size, and that the domain aggregation significantly reduces the energy barrier to pore growth. Coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations are performed to validate such domain aggregation and associated pore formation. …”

Brazil: pre-salt outlook
Published 2015“…This optimism had been brought to the forefront of the global oil and gas industries by the 2007/8 discovery of the vast pre-salt basins, specifically the Tupi field. This ranks alongside Kashagan as one of the largest and most significant oil discoveries of the past few decades. …”

Role of the pore-size distribution function on water flow in unsaturated soil
Published 2020“…Previous research has indicated that the hydraulic properties of soil are dependent on its pore-size distribution. An improved capillary model is now proposed to explain the concept of the pore-size distribution in soil and its relationship to SWCC. …”

The role of graphite foam pore structure on saturated pool boiling enhancement
Published 2013“…Block and fin evaporators of different fin-to-block-surface-area ratios (AR) were designed to study the role of the internal pore structure of graphite foams in a compact air-cooled thermosyphon under saturated pool boiling condition for high heat flux electronics cooling applications. …”

Fabrication of hollow fiber membranes using amphiphilic block copolymers as pore-forming additives
Published 2014“…The use of additives is an important mean to tailoring the membrane structures and properties during membrane fabrication. Amphiphilic Pluronic triblock copolymers of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(propylene oxide) (PPO) have received much attention recently in membrane preparation due to their unique behaviors, such as high surface activity and micellization in water, which potentially change the surface properties and pore structure of membranes. …”

Significance of the natural convection to the heat transfer of porous media: a pore-scale study
Published 2024“…Heat conduction in porous media is generally accompanied by the natural convection of the fluid within the pores driven by the temperature gradient. However, the criterion to determine the critical pore size of porous media where the natural convection cannot be neglected remains elusive. …”
