Micro-RBS study of nickel silicide formation
Published 2013“…The patterned samples investigated consist of an array of square pads (View the MathML source) of the structure Ni(Pt)Six/Poly-Si (2000 Å)/SiO2 (2500 Å)/Si and narrow lines of 100 μm length and linewidths of 5 and 2 μm. μ-RBS (∼View the MathML source beam spot) was used to obtain the thickness and stoichiometry of the silicide films for the square pads. …”

Al2O3-Cu hybrid nanofluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in the duct with various triangular rib configurations
Published 2024“…Key findings include: (1) the 60° rib configuration produced the highest local heat transfer coefficient, with the maximum occurring at the rib centers. (2) Increasing nanofluid concentration and Reynolds number enhanced heat transfer but reduced skin friction. (3) The optimal performance was achieved with 2 vol.% Al2O3–Cu at Re = 60,000. (4) Velocity contours revealed larger recirculation zones for 60° ribs compared to 45° and 90° configurations. (5) Turbulent kinetic energy was highest for 60° ribs, contributing to enhanced thermal performance. …”

Robust delivery of RIG-I agonists using extracellular vesicles for anti-cancer immunotherapy
Published 2022“…We evaluate the anti-cancer activity of two novel RIG-I agonists, the immunomodulatory RNA (immRNA) with a unique secondary structure for efficient RIG-I activation, and a 5' triphosphorylated antisense oligonucleotide with dual function of RIG-I activation and miR-125b inhibition (3p-125b-ASO). …”

Mechanisms that promote the evolution of cross-reactive antibodies upon vaccination with designed influenza immunogens
Published 2024“…Here, we develop a computational model to interrogate antibody evolution by affinity maturation after immunization with two types of immunogens: a heterotrimeric "chimera" hemagglutinin that is enriched for the RBS epitope relative to other B cell epitopes and a cocktail composed of three non-epitope-enriched homotrimers of the monomers that comprise the chimera. …”

Back to the Basics of SARS-CoV-2 Biochemistry: Microvascular Occlusive Glycan Bindings Govern Its Morbidities and Inform Therapeutic Responses
Published 2024“…These interlaced attachments trigger the blood cell aggregation, microvascular occlusion and vascular damage that underlie the hypoxia, blood clotting and related morbidities of severe COVID-19. Notably, the two human betacoronaviruses that express a sialic acid-cleaving enzyme are benign, while the other three—SARS, SARS-CoV-2 and MERS—are virulent. …”

Simultaneous polymerization and adhesion under hypoxia in sickle cell disease
Published 2019“…We show that (i) hypoxia significantly enhances sickle RBC adherence; (ii) HbS polymerization enhances sickle cell adherence in SRs and SMEs, but not in ISCs; (iii) SRs exhibit unique adhesion dynamics where HbS fiber projections growing outward from the cell surface create multiple sites of adhesion; and (iv) polymerization stimulates adhesion and vice versa, thereby establishing the bidirectional coupling between the two processes. …”
