Culture of human pluripotent stem cells and neural networks in 3D using an optogenetic approach and a hydrogel model
Published 2016“…Viability of the cells at 7 day-post-infection was 80% - 97% in all conditions tested. In line with published literature, transduction efficiency of neurons at day 14 was found to be 3% - 7% for plasmids containing the SYN1 promoter and 2% - 5% for plasmids containing the CaMKII promoter. …”

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition of cancer cells using bioengineered hybrid scaffold composed of hydrogel/3D-fibrous framework
Published 2019“…In this study, we focused on two major points (i) designing and fabrication of 3D hybrid scaffolds comprising electrospun fibers with cancer cells embedded within hydrogels, and (ii) determining the potential roles of 3D hybrid scaffolds associated with EMT in cancer progression and metastasis. Our findings revealed that 3D hybrid scaffold enhances cell proliferation and induces cancer cells to undergo EMT, as demonstrated by significant up-regulation of EMT associated transcriptional factors including Snail1, Zeb1, and Twist2; and mesenchymal markers whereas epithelial marker, E-Cadherin was downregulated. …”

Impact of China's financial development on the sustainable development goals of the Belt and Road Initiative participating countries
Published 2024“…To address this gap, we utilized panel regression models to quantitatively assess the impact of China’s financial development scale, structure, and efficiency on the SDGs of the BRI participating countries, and adopted Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression (GTWR) model to explore the spatial-temporal effects of China’s financial development scale, structure, and efficiency on the SDGs of the BRI participating countries. Our findings indicate that China’s financial development has significantly promoted the SDGs of the BRI participating countries. …”

A materials science framework for connecting protein stability with surface adsorption and coating applications
Published 2022“…Finally, the experimentally observed differences in conformational properties and adsorption behavior of certain types of BSA proteins were correlated with their surface passivation performance. In summary, the findings in this thesis presented how materials science concepts can be used to rationalize the relationship between protein conformational stability and adsorption behavior and offer a broadly applicable approach to engineer protein coatings for various useful applications.…”

Missing Data
Published 2024“…While some might refer to data that is literally absent, as in statistical approaches to missing data that attempts to interpolate what might fill in the gaps,1 others, such as the artist and educator Mimi Ọnụọha, take “missing data” to mean something more political — “something [that] does not exist, but it should.”2 In the same line as Ọnụọha, our definition of missing data refers to information that goes uncounted (or otherwise unrecorded), despite social and political demands that such data should be collected and made available. …”

A training algorithm and stability analysis for recurrent neural networks
Published 2014“…Besides, the transient response of learning process of RNNs is a critical issue, especially for on-line applications. Conventional RNNs training algorithms such as the backpropagation through time (BPTT) and real-time recurrent learning (RTRL) have not adequately satisfied these requirements because they often suffer from slow convergence speed. …”
