One-dimensional sectors from the squashed three-sphere
Published 2022“…For gauge theories with matter hypermultiplets, we use supersymmetric localization to derive an explicit description of the topological sector associated with the Higgs branch. Furthermore, we find that the dependence of the 1d correlation functions on the squashing parameter b can be removed after appropriate rescalings. …”

Evidence of rapid hydrogen chloride uptake on water ice in the atmosphere of Mars
Published 2024“…In this work, we use simultaneous measurements of water ice and HCl obtained by the ACS instrument to find particular structures in the vertical profiles as detached gas layers at ice-free altitudes (“ice-holes”). …”

Encephalization is not a universal macroevolutionary phenomenon in mammals but is associated with sociality
Published 2010“…We show that there is wide variation across groups in encephalization slopes across groups and that encephalization is not universal in mammals. We also find that temporal changes in brain size are not associated with allometric relationships between brain and body size. …”

Inferring structural variant cancer cell fraction
Published 2020“…We assess performance using in silico mixtures of real samples, at known proportions, created from two clonal metastases from the same patient. We find that SVclone's performance is comparable to single-nucleotide variant-based methods, despite having an order of magnitude fewer data points. …”

Social stratification in science: the ultra-elite in the UK
Published 2024“…In the UK case, we compare the social origins and educational careers of members of two possible scientific ultra-elites, defined by differing degrees of stringency, with those of other elite scientists. We find that as one moves from the elite to the less stringently defined ultra-elite, there is little evidence of increasing social stratification but that such evidence does emerge in moving to the more stringently defined ultra-elite. …”

Query lower bounds for log-concave sampling
Published 2024“…In this work, we establish the following query lower bounds: (1) sampling from strongly log-concave and log-smooth distributions in dimension ≥ 2 requires Ω(log) queries, which is sharp in any constant dimension, and (2) sampling from Gaussians in dimension (hence also from general log-concave and log-smooth distributions in dimension) requires Ωe(min( √ log,)) queries, which is nearly sharp for the class of Gaussians. …”
