Service quality gaps in the container shipping industry
Published 2013“…Thereafter, a survey was conducted with shippers and container liner service providers to confirm the validity of the proposed SQ model. In the survey findings, the SQ dimensions: Outcome, Tangible and Process have been identified as top priorities for shippers with SQ attributes associated to reliability, competitive pricing and vessel slot availability being the top concerns of shippers. …”

Evaluation of context awareness algorithms for recommending mobile content
Published 2014“…The experiment results indicated that the location-based generalized pre-filtering algorithm has higher accuracy than weight post-filtering algorithm; and for generalized pre-filtering, accuracy of usage increases when the range of generalized location increases reasonably. The findings and the way of systematic evaluation on mobile context-aware recommender system would benefit the selection process of context-awareness recommendation algorithms for mobile content.…”

Fluid velocity slip and temperature jump at a solid surface
Published 2015“…Despite the long history of the jump boundary conditions, most of the existing theoretical models for gas- solid and liquid-solid interfaces fail to provide satisfactory predictions of experimental findings. We first develop an adsorption model for fluid-solid interactions that is applicable to both gases and liquids. …”

Supported lipid bilayer platforms for investigating complement activation, termination and regulation
Published 2017“…In the fourth study, the inhibitory action of vitronectin and clusterin against the membrane attack complex assembly was evaluated, offering insight into the different mechanisms by which these two regulatory proteins inhibit complement activation. In summary, the findings presented in this thesis significantly contribute to the fundamental understanding of complement activation occurring at lipid membrane interfaces, and offer a new platform to characterize the mechanisms of action for a wide range of complement inhibitors including small molecules, antibodies, and peptides.…”

Published 2017“…We show that the predicted values of the Leidenfrost temperature are consistent with the experimentally measured ones for various liquids having widely different properties, suggesting that complex entanglement between the involving hydrodynamic and thermodynamic processes of the Leidenfrost phenomenon can be understood under the newly proposed mechanism. Our findings offer a new theoretical framework to treat the Leidenfrost transition, a crucial step towards complete control of the Leidenfrost phenomenon.…”

Towards whom should indoor environmental quality control be sympathetic : asthmatics or non-asthmatics?
Published 2014“…Data for subjects' work performances, perceptual responses, and salivary α-amylase concentration at initial and after 3-h exposures were reported in this paper. The main findings suggest that: (i) temperature settings should be sympathetic towards asthmatic subjects because of their higher sensitivity to temperatures at the lower spectrum of thermal comfort conditions; (ii) IAQ settings should be sympathetic towards non-asthmatic subjects because of their higher sensitivity to perceived air quality acceptability in the same temperature range. …”

Simultaneous polymerization and adhesion under hypoxia in sickle cell disease
Published 2019“…We show that (i) hypoxia significantly enhances sickle RBC adherence; (ii) HbS polymerization enhances sickle cell adherence in SRs and SMEs, but not in ISCs; (iii) SRs exhibit unique adhesion dynamics where HbS fiber projections growing outward from the cell surface create multiple sites of adhesion; and (iv) polymerization stimulates adhesion and vice versa, thereby establishing the bidirectional coupling between the two processes. These findings offer insights into possible mechanistic pathways leading to vasoocclusion crisis. …”
