The interaction between ketone bodies and carbohydrate in human metabolism
Published 2017“…After glycogen-depleting exercise, endogenous insulin levels rose two-fold, glucose disposal increased 32% and glycogen synthesis increased 50% during a 2-hour hyperglycaemic (10 mM glucose) clamp following the KE drink. In overnight fasted healthy controls and type-2 diabetic participants (T2DM), KE increased insulin and lowered glucose concentrations vs. control (zero calorie) drink. …”

Coloration and functionalization of organic cotton fabric using Chinese fringe leaf extraction: A greener approach
Published 2025“…Optimal dyeing conditions were established with a 10 % Al2(SO4)3 mordant, resulting in dyed OCF exhibiting a significant color strength (K/S) of 5.90 and excellent fastness including rubbing, washing and light. Comprehensive characterization techniques, such as optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), elemental mapping, and FTIR, validated the successful dyeing process which ensure the bonding between natural dyes and fabrics in the presence of mordant. …”

Nuclei sorting-based genome-wide CRISPR screens to identify novel regulators of hepatic insulin signalling
Published 2024“…By modulating rates of hepatic glucose output and glucose uptake into skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, it is at the core of blood glucose homeostasis, ensuring normoglycaemia during fasting and feeding. The liver is one of the three major tissues that acts in sustaining appropriate blood glucose levels. …”

Investigating the functional and metabolic role of carnitine in the diabetic heart using hyperpolarized MRI
Published 2018“…A neonatal model of diabetes showed decreased aerobic to anaerobic metabolism (50 %) in conjunction with functional impairment, which could be reversed with Glibenclamide treatment. A fasted streptozotocin induced rat model showed superior SNR on MRI and was pursued further. …”

A high-protein and low-glycemic formula diet improves blood pressure and other hemodynamic parameters in high-risk individuals
Published 2022“…Changes in SBP, DBP, and PWV were significantly associated positively with changes in body weight and fat mass (all p 0.05) and resting HR correlated positively with fasting insulin (p 0.001) after 12 months. Combining a lifestyle intervention with a high-protein and low-glycemic formula diet improves hemodynamic parameters to a greater extent than lifestyle intervention alone in high-risk individuals with overweight and obesity.…”

Circadian rhythm and misalignment in the pathogenesis of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD): an experimental medicine approach
Published 2023“…

In the DECIMAL study, 12 patients with MASLD and 12 control participants underwent detailed metabolic phenotyping including a 2-step hyperinsulinaemic euglycaemic clamp with stable isotope assessments of glucose utilization during the day (07:00–13:00) and at night (19:00–01:00) under standardised fasting conditions. Identical day and night investigations were then performed in patients with MASLD after a 12-week weight loss programme. …”

Global burden and strength of evidence for 88 risk factors in 204 countries and 811 subnational locations, 1990–2021: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2...
Published 2024“…
Findings
Among the specific risk factors analysed for this study, particulate matter air pollution was the leading contributor to the global disease burden in 2021, contributing 8·0% (95% UI 6·7–9·4) of total DALYs, followed by high systolic blood pressure (SBP; 7·8% [6·4–9·2]), smoking (5·7% [4·7–6·8]), low birthweight and short gestation (5·6% [4·8–6·3]), and high fasting plasma glucose (FPG; 5·4% [4·8–6·0]). For younger demographics (ie, those aged 0–4 years and 5–14 years), risks such as low birthweight and short gestation and unsafe water, sanitation, and handwashing (WaSH) were among the leading risk factors, while for older age groups, metabolic risks such as high SBP, high body-mass index (BMI), high FPG, and high LDL cholesterol had a greater impact. …”
