Enhancing fouling mitigation of submerged flat-sheet membranes by vibrating 3D-spacers by Tan, Yong Zen, Mao, Ziming, Zhang, Yanjun, Tan, Wen See, Chong, Tzyy Haur, Wu, Bing, Chew, Jia Wei

    Published 2021
“…Furthermore, two types of wave-like spacers were designed based on CFD simulation, in which perforation were placed on the spacer in order to enhance shear rate and provide a path for the back transport of foulants into the bulk feed. The MF membrane tests showed that the presence of either big holes (2 mm diameter) or small holes (1 mm diameter) could not benefit to reduce membrane fouling at a lower permeate flux (20 L/m² h), but the presence of small holes significantly improved membrane performance at a higher permeate flux (40 and 60 L/m² h).…”

Performance enhancement of ultrafiltration membrane via simple deposition of polymer-based modifiers by Tian, Miao, Wang, Rong, Goto, Atsushi, Mao, Weijia, Miyoshi, Yasuyuki, Mizoguchi, Hirotaka

    Published 2021
“…The results show that the random copolymer modified membrane exhibited average 26 % rises in water permeability compared with the virgin PES UF membrane when 0.5 wt% BSA solution was used as feed. The stable permeability and flux recovery rate during the cyclic study with chemical cleaning suggest good affinity of the newly synthesized random copolymer with the PES membrane and water. …”

Whole genome sequencing and comparative analysis of novel pathogen elizbethkingia anophelis against oxidative stress by Li, Yingying

    Published 2017
“…Moreover, the transcriptome profiling comparison between E. anophelis NUHP1 treated with hydrogen peroxide and with mouse blood further showed that E. anophelis NUHP1 displayed the similar protective mechanism associated with iron siderophore and heme utilization when contact with mouse blood, indicating that oxidative stress is the major stress for E. anophelis NUHP1 when infect hosts and the strong resistance to oxidative stress enables E. anophelis to be dominant in the blood meal feeding mosquitoes. Furthermore, we also showed that hemoglobin but not ferric iron greatly facilitates the growth, hydrogen peroxide tolerance and biofilm formation of E. anophelis NUHP1. …”
