A materialist and intertextual examination of the process of writing a work of children's literature
Published 1997“…It is my contention that descriptions of such a process are unsatisfactory unless they incorporate and combine the following four elements: i) an examination of how the particular self under consideration (me) was formed in a specific socioeconomic, and cultural moment; ii) an examination of how, within that moment, that self engaged with the texts made available in the institutions it occupied; iii) an explanation of how the writing involved a synthesis of experiences - of life, texts and audiences; iv) an explanation of how a writer reads his or her own writing. The first two of these elements comprise the 'historical.. .context' noted above and the second two offer aspects of a 'theoretical.. .context'.…”

Guitar stringing in late nineteenth-century North America: the emergence of steel
Published 2014“…Whereas previously guitar strings with gut trebles and copper overwound silk core basses had been imported from Europe, new evidence of the North American use of steel in their manufacture from the mid-nineteenth century is revealed in Virginia Penny’s Cyclopaedia of 1863. Her account of factory-women winding strings further supports Philip Gura’s findings from the examination of the accounts and business records of James Ashborn’s Connecticut guitar factory, which reveal increased use of mechanization and the inclusion of a string winding division in 1851. …”

The Use of Technology and eLearning among Academic Staff: a case study
Published 2007“…(Collis and Moonen, 2001) There have been a number of studies which have explored the factors that influence an instructor’s decision to make use of a technology application in his or her pedagogical practice. One such model is the 4-E Model (Collis, Peters and Pals, 1999) which proposes that an individual’s likelihood of voluntarily making use of a particular type of technology for a learning-related purpose is a function of the 4 E’s: the environmental context, the individual’s perception of educational effectiveness, ease of use and sense of personal engagement with the technology, the latter two being of most importance. …”
