description | It is a fact that the richest and biggest of towns or cities have brought forward and influex of people from smaller towns to these centres in search of better job opportunities, glamour and other commitments. It is because of this migration of people together with the increase in population that the building industry is always kept an active level trying to meet with this demand for houses. The Government and other major developers have, therefore, to look into means whereby houses can be built at a much faster rate. Hence, housing development has not other choice but to go industrialised. It is the primary objective of this dissertation to show the validity to go into this new method of construction. The focus of study is concentrated on the Kelang Valley Region because it is no doubt the most developed region in the whole country and also where projects of this nature have already been undertaken. The disertation covers a major study of the Region where the revealing facts and details of urban development, population growth and the housing need of this decade give proof of the need to go into industrialised housing, (that is, in Chapters, II, III & IV). A full chapter in chapter V gives the various systems or types of industrialised housing, its advantages, disadvantages and the planning of such projects. Chapter VI covers generally the concept of township planning whereby it advises on the proper planning of a township and also gives an example of its layout. In the final analysis, as in chapter VII, we see that though the costs of industrialised housing is high in the initial stages but considering the mass-production of houses at any one stage and the inflation rate will, however, offset the initial high capital incurred, It is feasible when practised in areas such as the Kelang Valley Region where there exist a simple case of supply not being able to meet the demand. |
