description | In 2015, the réforme du collège was launched in France, introducing the principles of the so-called ‘spiral pedagogy’, first expounded by Jerome S. Bruner in 1960, into the school curriculum. In this contribution, the changes concerning the teaching of music education are addressed from a historical, and partly comparative, perspective. More specifically, the four main stages at which government programmes have been published (from 1920 to the present) are described, with particular attention to the 2015 programmes. The article then examines the question of the reception of Bruner’s thought in France (also in relation to the case of the Manhattanville Music Curriculum Program in the United States) and its practical application in music education. |
