description Purpose: The main purpose of this literature review article is to analyze the effects that emotional leadership has on employees’ motivation and commitment to work as well as on company’s performance and organizational climate. Design/methodology: The methodological approach is qualitative, with a documentary design, supported by literature review and based on critical analysis. Findings: There is a direct relationship between the type of leadership and its impact on workers and a company’s performance. Practical implications: Emotions are a constitutive part of the business, therefore, the exercise of emotional leadership by the leader, represents a relevant factor in the effective management and administration of an organization. Originality/value: the value lies in the extensive information, evidence and practical data that the article provides, as well as the specific knowledge that this work offers to those leaders who want to exercise emotional intelligence. Added to this, there is the fact that the directors of Fundación de Liderazgo Chile (FLICH) are proposing to the Parliament a bill related, precisely, to the subject that is analyzed in this article. The purpose of the bill is to implement workshops to develop socio-emotional skills in all educational establishments in Chile and Latin America through emotional education.
