the proliferation of chronic diseases. This phenomenon has not spared Algeria, where diabetes is one of the major problems of public health. Studies have revealed a female predominance of diabetes around the world and nationally, as well as a greater number of deaths. On the contrary, a low interest was observed
for this gender characteristic. In addition to the medicinal treatment prescribed for diabetes, dietetic measures are recommended, where emphasis was placed on the importance of nutritional intake in maintaining the glycemic balance.Objective.
In this context, we undertook a socio-anthropological study with the main objective of shedding light on the complexity of these food practices. Methodology. We have mobilized a qualitative approach based on twenty interviews, conducted at home, with diabetic patients living in Oran. .Résults The influence of social gender relationships was noted on the dietary practices of
diabetic women.The criteria of taste appreciation, pleasure of eating, and sense of sharing were highlighted in the choice of foods. Eating habits appeared as very strong identity markers, imbued with culinary traditions. Conclusion. This brings us to the importance of a socio-anthropological approach to diet in patients with diabetes. |
