Effects of 5α-dihydrotestosterone on the modulation of monocyte/macrophage response to Staphylococcus aureus: an in vitro study

Highlights A sex difference in the immune response to S. aureus was observed. DHT stimulated a greater release of inflammatory cytokines. DHT promoted the activation of genes involved in this response. DHT suppressed the release of inflammatory markers.
