description | This study aimed to identify the role of Libyan universities in the development of students’ thinking skills. To achieve the study objectives, the researcher used the descriptive method. The study sample, which was selected by simple random method, consisted of (1700) students, in the academic year 2017 in the universities of Asmaria, Markab, Zitouna and Tripoli in Libya. The study used a questionnaire, which consisted of (50) items distributed over four dimensions: i) analysis skills (7 items); ii) evaluation skills (12 items); iii) solving problem skills (15 items); and iv) above- cognition skills (16 items). In addition, the results of this study revealed that the students’ overall assessment of the role of Libyan universities in the development of students’ thinking skills had a medium score. The highest score was for solving problem skills, while the lowest score was for evaluation skills. Therefore, the study recommends offering the proposed educational program to develop students’ thinking skills as well as adopting a methodology to develop thinking skills in all courses and academic disciplines.
