description This article aims to analyze the evaluation system, monitoring and accreditation of educational quality in Venezuela. It investigates whether the creation of this system has been the result of a policy framed in the improvement of quality in higher education. The methodology used was a documentary study using the technique of bibliographic signing, from which the theoretical nuclei were developed. For the purposes of analysis, it was split into four parts: the first describes the quality of education in Venezuelan universities. The second part was about the evaluation of Venezuelan universities. The third was concerned about the evaluation system, monitoring and accreditation of the university sector. Finally, I reflect on the achievements regarding the evaluation of higher education institutions and the challenges that are considered key to achieving a higher quality education. It is concluded that despite multiple attempts by government agencies and universities until 2016, little progress and results have been reached to allow implementation of a system for evaluating the quality of higher education in Venezuela
