Pervasive hydrous carbonatitic liquids mediate transfer of carbon from the slab to the subarc mantle
Hydrous carbonatitic liquids can be generated from the subducting slab at temperatures as low as 850–900 °C which could confine the carbon cycle to depths of less than 200 km, according to high-pressure laboratory experiments on carbonated hydrous pelites.
