Record winter winds in 2020/21 drove exceptional Arctic sea ice transport

In the winter 2020-2021, unusual winds pushed old sea ice from the central Arctic Ocean to lower latitudes, where the ice may melt more easily in the coming warm season, suggests an analysis of sea ice satellite data and ERA5 reanalysis data.
