Summary: | This paper investigates and analyses adjectives used in advertisements for fashion items and cosmetics. Under observation were advertisements from nine women's magazines. The paper deals with several aspects of adjective use. We studied the manner in which advertisements manipulate their target audience through the meaning of adjectives: we analyzed the role adjectives play in terms of syntax as well as the type of adjectives dominating advertising texts. The conclusion was drawn that various aspects of meaning in adjectives give ample ground to advertising for fulfilling their persuasive and conative function. |
