description | In the few academic works on the subject, the video game press is often seen as a space dedicated to the construction of a shared videogame culture, or a “gamer’s habitus”. It is thus recognized as an intermediary that inscribes a series of referents over time; a role of catalyst that, through a battery of specific notation criteria, describes video games, both good ones and bad ones. So much so that, by dint of working with the industry, many academic actors perceive the video game press as deprived of any critical spirit. This paper seeks to deconstruct the devaluations arguing that the video game press would be a mere buying guide. Some active journalists, tired of pegging their content to the news, are developing a series of tactics to enrich the treatment of their videogame raw material. By analyzing a series of examples, we seek to demonstrate how these original insights contribute to enriching the language of discourses about video game. |
