Cation controlled rotation in anionic pillar[5]arenes and its application for fluorescence switch

Controlling molecular motion is challenging. Here, the authors report the effect of counter cations on the rotational barriers of hydroquinone rings in a molecular rotor based on anionic pillar[5]arenes.
