Description
Summary:The expressive inspiration of Ivo Andrić is always at the spring of popular expression. This especially refers to proverbs originating from the conciseness type of the folklore, popular štokavian dialect. Proverbs are deeply woven into Andrić`s work showing thereby a high conciseness, semantic density, and nuanced specificity of expression. We recognise the greatness of our Nobel Prize winner also by how much in his work he managed to reise the local to the level of the universal. The translation equivalent of Andrić’s proverbs in the Russian and German Languages has once again confirmed their universal value. However, it also confirmed that Croatian, Russian and German belong to the same civilisation circle.
