WHEN FREEDOM IS NOT A GOOD THAT BELONGS TO ALL: THE CONDITION OF LIFE OF SLAVES IN THE HOUSE OF DETENTION OF THE CITY OF RECIFE.

This article deals with the imprisonment of slaves in the House of Detention in Recife, and the fear of the planters that the conditions of the prison could be considered more "favorable" to the slaves, accustomed to the work in the mills.
