description The present work aimed to analyze the construction of narratives that can manifest the historical culture of the municipalities of Belford Roxo, Queimados, Japeri and Mesquita, emancipated from Nova Iguaçu at the turn of the 20th century for this century. This historical context is crossed by the transformations brought about by the end of the dictatorial period and by the emergence of new subjects in the Brazilian political field. In this scenario, we maintain that the constructions that give account of the local historical culture have, in the school environment, privileged locus for their elaboration and understanding. However, we found some gaps with regard to the local history of these municipalities, both in historiography and in curriculum standards, which led us to address the mobilization of experiential knowledge, identified from testimonies of teachers linked to the municipal education networks of these cities.
