description Fish is one of food commodities that is quite popular in the public, not only for the delicious taste but also the nutrient contents, with the protein content 20% and fatty acid content which contains a lot of omega-3 that are beneficial to human health. However, these nutrient contents are susceptible to degradation due to the high water content, so it is necessary to extend the life-time storage by the use of preservative substance. Now a days, there are lot of fishery product spreserved using non-food additives which are banned by the government health division, one of which is formaldehyde. This On the Job Training aims to determine the level of formalin content used in fish and to know the effort to take to ensure the safety of fish products in the city. The test result using Formalin Test Kit shows one of the samples contains of 1.5 ppm formaldehyde. The monitoring program conducted by the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperative and Agricultural of Yogyakarta is rather good, it's just that the formaldehyde content found in fish is still above standard compared to the standards of International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS).
