Summary: | A crucial problem to research in public food supply was food safety assurance. The aims of this study were to know the profile of salted fish vendors and the relationship between food safety knowledge, attitude and practices of salted fish vendors at traditional markets in Yogyakarta. Evaluations were also conducted for salted fish buyers and its practices toward food safety. Forty-three of salted fish vendors and 108 buyers were interviewed with written guide questionnaire and observation at the location of sale. Description test and correlation test with 5% significant degree used for data analysis. Interviewed were done by in this research.
The results of this study indicated that approximately 12% of the vendors were considered to have a good knowledge of food safety, 58% were adequate and only 30% were very poor. Based on food safety attitude, 63% of the vendors were considered to have a good attitude, 30% were adequate and only 7% were very poor. Forty-three percent of the vendors had a very bad practices, 53% were adequate and only 7% had a good practices toward of food safety. The microbiological condition of salted fish samples in traditional markets at Yogyakarta were poor, as indicated that 48% had TPC of 108 CFU/g or higher.
Correlations test showed that the level of knowledge on food safety was significantly correlated with level of education (r=0.283)
