| Summary: | Background: Development of communication and information technology
can be utilized for the development of health promotion methods and
media. The use of information and communication technology can be
performed at various stages and cycles of disaster management including
the phase of disaster preparedness.
Objective: To determine the effectiveness of short message service and
leaflets media in improving the knowledge and intention to disaster
preparedness among junior high school students in Banda Aceh city.
Methods: This study was quasi experiment that used a pretest-posttest
with control group design. The population was junior high school students.
Research variables were knowledge and intentions toward disaster
preparedness as dependent variables, and health promotion through short
message service and leaflet media, as well as lecture and discussion as
independent variables.
Results: There was an increasing of knowledge and intentions toward
disaster preparedness among group that receive short message service
and leaflet media compared to those who obtained lecture and discussion.
The difference was not statistically significant.
Conclusion: Health promotion through short message service and leaflets
media were not more effective than lecture and discussion method in
improving knowledge and intentions of junior high school students on
disaster preparedness in Banda Aceh City. |
