Summary: | Recently, the automatic assessment systems is only assess quantitatively. None of
the assesment systems evaluate achievement of competency. The achievement of the
compentencies are important to measure the success of a teaching method that has been
delivered.
In its development, ontology has been applied in automatic assessment system,
because it has been proved to be very useful in sharing concepts across applications in
an unambiguous way and also conceived as a good mechanism to describe the
shareable and common understanding in a domain concept. Ontology supports
information exchange based on semantics rather than just syntax.
In this research, ontology for competency-based assessment system using elearning
has been design. The design of the ontology relates class of student as an
object with competencies and component of assessment. Afterward, the design of the
ontology is appended some rules for both calculating student achievement in each
competency and for giving student recommendation of graduation. There are two
scenarios are conducted in this research, the first scenario is the ontology and its rules
created first in Protégé then the result of the design will be implemented in LMS
Moodle. In the second scenario, assessment is run first in LMS Moodle. Afterwards
assessment database will be exported to Protege using Datamaster plug-in and JDBC
connector and it follows by creating ontology and its rule in Protege.
The both scenario results show that the design of the ontology and the created
rules can provide an assessment dan recommendation of graduation. The assesment and
the recommendarion are according to the rules set.
