Combined with these deprotection methods, lithium (α-methylbenzyl)(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl) amide 2 can be used as an efficient differentially protected chiral ammonia equivalent for the asymmetric synthesis of β-amino acid and β-lactam derivatives.
